  • Over fueling. Help Please

My 2.4 LN130 has been in the garage now for 2 months yes 2 months.
It was due to have a timing belt and had started to over heat. I fitted a new radiator as the flow was poor, it was no better so I took it to a local garage.
The head was found to be cracked and a new one fitted together with new belt. The problem then started big style. From that time on the engine will not run for more than 30 seconds. It throws out clouds of black smoke then shuts down.
    The injectors have been tested.
The injector pump has been overhauld.
The engine management unit has been replaced with one from a good runner.
No codes can be read from the engine management unit.

Where do we go from here, has any one got any ideas Please.
The cost so far will need a lottery win to pay it!

Sounds like it could be the pump timing? Maybe the belt has jumped a tooth or two...
    It just does, OK?

Were the injector pipes put back correctly? Fuel filter blocked? Are all electrical connections, err connected, especially on and around the fuel pump?
Does the garage know what they're doing? Have they seen a diesel engine before?

I hope they don't charge you for any extra work due to their problems.

Thanks lads, the timing has been checked 3 times and all the electrical connectors have been checked but with being unable to read the management unit it is hard to know if the connectors or sensors are actually
        working.

Do you know the proceedure for checking the codes?
          http://www.off-road.com/toyota/tech/codes/index.html

The codes are for the petrol engine, but obtaining them is the same method.
Theses are the codes for the diesel engines.....
          RESULTS FROM CODES

          1 - Normal
2 - Turbo boost pressure sensor
          4 - Coolant temperature sensor
          5 - Correction resistance (Pump)
6 - Pump speed sensor (Pump)
          7 - Throttle position sensor
8 - Intake air temperature sensor
          9 - Vehicle speed sensor
          10 - Starter switch
11 - Switch sign (Vehicle not in P or N or A/C on)
12 - Timer control valve (Pump)
          13 - Crank position sensor

To clear any codes either disconnect the battery or remove the ECD relay for one minute

            Couldn't agree more.

Go to this link and have a look at the pic of pump with numbered outlets. This is the proper way to connect the fuel lines. Check it out. It's possible to get this wrong.

Thanks Vince and thanks Nev. I have found ou t more today then the garage found out in 2 months.
I can not get to the motor myself but via a phone I have from your leads found that the "Check Engine" does not illuminate. but when put into diagnostic mode it flashes 2 times then 7 times a pause then 8 times and 11 times. Then starts the cycle all over again.
I am over the moon that you have got me this far, Thanks again.
All I have to do now is find out what this means, then the repair work can begin.
I will let you know how it goes.

              Many Thanks
