  • OK Here's a tricky one ???

Recently discovered after a question from another Aussie member about a switch on the manual box that there is a 5th gear switch. This is located forward of the reverse switch and on the drivers side. Did some tests to determine what this switch does and how it works. Only worked out so far that it operates when in fifth gear. My question is does anyone know where the wiring for this goes and why. Does it control something in the ECU, Fuel Pump or somewhere else. One suggestion is it is for economy mode but how does it work ????

Hey Nev. We're all out here mate, just haven't got the slightest idea.

I am not someone that stands a hope of telling you the answer, but do you mean there is a switch on the actual gearbox? As in the big metal thing under the car? I was brought up along the lines that if you don't know what something does, disable it and see what fcuks up.

What does the reverse one do? I'm just interested. Maybe the switch on 5th just stops you from putting it in reverse when you shift down if you're a clumsy tw@t. I don't even now how the gearshift is configured (as in whether 5th and reverse are remotely near each other) and I have no idea what a switch would do anyway. I haven't got a clue but just to let you know we're still here and as baffled as you are.

I, for one, am intrigued by what this mystery switch does. Could it be linked to the red button and time travel capabilities we have all read about but been unable to activate?

A switch on fifth gear. Hmmm.

To send a signal to activate the overdrive?

          To activate the cloaking device?

          Hah!! Got it!!!

To turn the radio up so you can still hear it!!!
          It just does, OK?

The switch is on a manual box.

Here is the link for the topic on the Aussie forum with a pic.

4x4 cutoff??? Fifth gear selected, disable 4x4 selection.

              Could be for anything.
