Thats probably why you've got leaks then. The oil is old and thin.

        O.k guys,
I know i have faulted in the past regarding regular services.
I havn't realy got any solid excuses for not getting it done even if i don't now how i could of got someone else to do it for me.
However this weekend i will be attempting the servicing of the oil, and all the filters.
As a genaral rule of thumb, can you tell me irispective of what oil anyone uses
In milages only please when the oil, oil filter, fuel filter and air filter would get changed.
        Regards
        Kev.

This is the schedule I keep to - it's taken from a service schedule for a Land Cruiser Prado (Colorado).

          Oil every 3000 miles (5000km)
Oil filter every 6000 miles (10000km) (ie every other oil change, but most do it every time anyway)
Fuel filter every 12000 miles (20000km)
Air filter every 18000 miles (30000km) (or earlier if really dirty)
Gearbox, transfer, diffs every 24000 miles (400000km)

That'll do nicely. You'll need about 7.5 litres though.

Cant wait to get it done now
Only thing worrying me is the fuel filter, if its tight i havn't got anything to get it of with.

You should be able to untwist it with your hands. If not, create a
tourniquet from something. Webbing works well.

                        • i've just changed my fuel filter bl--dy hell was that tight.i ended up taking it off the bracket and turning it upside down and putting it back on again (upside down) and using mole grips to undo the filter as well as the white platic bit with the drain plug on it.Put the bottom end back in the new filter filled it up with a 4 dose bottle of redex put it back together and drove it like i nicked it come home and checked it out for any leaks and all ok

                          • Well i did it, and without the help of my SO CALLED mate.
Evrything went well exept for the fuel filter, like stormforce1067 mine was the same (tight) and ended up side down on the car to loosen it off
Also put a bottle of millers injector cleaner in befor re-fitting.
BUT on the plus side it was all my own work and all parts should be easy to get off next time.
All in all including cleaning inside of car and the road with a hose pipe (oil evryware from taking filter off ) it took me just under 3 hrs (not bad for a bloke who has never worked on a car befor).
                            Regards
                            Kev.

                            • Oil is still seeping from here??
is it possible for it to be some thin oil that didn't come out whilst changing it,
But will eventually stop cos that bolt is bl**dy tight.

                              • Remove the air intake trunking that comes from the air filter housing to the turbo, including the rubber parts. and give them a clean (the inside!)
