      cost

Well, I've been looking at third-hand prices of anything from £40 upwards,

although both you and the last guy, both said £80
so at least I can save up for the summer, when its actually needed
      I suppose.

      thanks

          cost

£99 seems a lot to be honest,
I'll have a ring around before the summer and see if I can find cheaper
if I do I'll repost the results here

          anyway;http://www.4x4toys.co.uk/homepage.html

          is this any use?

If you want to try doing it yourself, Halfrauds do an R134 regassing kit. Not sure of the price but bound to be cheaper than a professional (sorry Aircondoc).

                    Be cool

Following the query about it all,

I contacted my local air-con outlet,
                    who told me;

'all post 1994 vehicles now use an alternative gas, to that of (older cars)

we can give you the name of an approved outfit, who are however able to help' becool 01933 359290

                    I spoke to him
sorry I've forgotten his name and his awkward web-site name

He offered an at home/work installation comprising of an initial test involving another gas, to check for leaks etc, and all being well, a re-charge, which would be more for for a large Toyota

the cost typically breaks down like this,
                    call out fee £35
                    gas cost £120

This most likely would be an annual charge,
due to leakage of the modern gas used, in conjunction with a (comparatively)old system likely to lose gas due to seepage and molecular structure
of modern gasses compared to old stuff.

Being mindful of all thing scammy,
and in any way Cash/wallet connected.

I was slightly suprised at cost, and the apparent recurrence on a yearly basis.

after all, I like T shirts and shorts,
and £150 would keep me in hypercolour shirts for a good while,
but he seemed to know his stuff, and I'm thinking about it this weekend,

                    He did suggest,
holding fire until say April so as to make best of gas, before it might leak out, and cause damage, by trying to run A/C
without adequate coolant-lubricant, which would be a £ot more to sort out

                    any thoughts chaps

Sounds like an awful lot of money & I've never heard of it having to be done on an annual basis.

I get mine done (not just the Hilux) in Leigh-on-sea for £45 inc & haven't had to go back with the same car once yet in 3 years

                        option

                        As I understand it,
due to being a 92' (old vehicle) company I contacted initially,
can't or won't touch it as the gas it uses, is not easilly available

                        So

1; ring around to find someone less scrupulous.

2; grin and bear it, all the time reaching for extra-big chequebook!

3; invest in snazzy looking loose clothing and don sunglasses
all the time anxiously viewing weather reports for that sun

                          Second Opinion

M8 I've never heard the likes of this guy. Shop around and get a second opinion. The leak test is done to make sure the gas is contained longer than a year. Back in RSA aircons run all year long and I never had mine re-gassed in 4 years.

'Gas' problems start to occur when the system is not run for prolonged periods. Like most mechanical systems ie. the 4x4 sytem on road only 4x4's.

i'm pretty sure that my mondeo handbook recommends getting the air con done with the 60,000 mile service!... so that would be 5 years at normal annual mileages!

                            i'll double check tomorrow.
nee nar nee nar, i'm a fire engine!

                              leaks

                              I may have misheard the advice, I think he was saying something like;

the gas now being used, is incompatible with the hoses/hardware,

where it more likely to find its way out in a shorter period, than it will have taken the original gas to leak out between refills
                              (sort of thing)

Oh bugger it I don't know,
anyway that 'air medic lot' rang me back tonight,

and said as its a pre 94' they can't do anything with it, unless its been converted to take the new stuff.

I've never had a working AC in my life, and at this rate its not going to happen by the looks of it, being advised this way and that

its like trying to get a plumber to give you a straight answer,
