    no not that topic again[I]
well i have cracked it, not my head but the problem,
after lots of pratting about flushing rads changing stats and so .
a big lesson has been learnt take advice seriously
don't pi55 about spend ten quid on silicone oil and half an hour of labour and top up the VISCOUS FAN oil and give the termo coupler on the front of it a good clean. stick it back to gether

call me lucky i have taken the temp gauge into and past the red over a dozen times in the last 12 months and no ill efects.
last week i did the fan and then hitched up my 21' jubilee globtrotter and whent hill running with ittwo hours of flogging it up welsh mountains and the gauge hardly rose above the normal mark.
    me is happy again.

    silicone oil part number
    08816-03001 from toyota
i just added 2 tubes to what was already in there.

i was going to bolt it all up solid but when i found it was £5 a tube of oil i went along with that bolting it up is still an option. fan is operating about 80% of the time now(better cool than hot me thinks)
prob now is this annoying squeal.

How about spraying the shaft of the alternator, just behind the pulley with WD40. I've done this on a couple of cars and it shuts them up.

Do not lock up a viscous fan solid as it may shatter . The fan will never lock solid even when the temp is right up as they rely on some amount of slip . The fan will try and move to much air and the plastic fins break . The squealing belt is because of the drag the over filled fan is putting on the drive train of your belts . Your fuel consumption will suffer to .

True, I don't overtighten them, usually add 1/2 tube of oil if it looks OK, and tighten the adjuster screws up a little.
