  • Help! Need help a.s.a.p!

I had my friend fit me a new timing belt yesterday. Everything is as its supposed 2 be there. the engine fired up normally like it did before the timing belt change. We changed the fuel filter (which is a FRAM) & primed it. The car took a bit 2 start & started on the 3rd try. Eveverything seemed o.k but when I drove down the road things changed! When I accelerate the turbo kicked in then knocked off as the engine check light kicked in. The truck has no power once that happens & is rough. Today my friend un done all the injectors to let out the air & some came out. When starting the car again it still took a few goes & chucks out a grey smoke when started. It also shows the smoke when accelerating, which it never did befroe.

Any help would be much appeciated! Cheers Tom

The fuel pump could be one tooth out on the belt.

It's very easy to get the fuel pump timing wrong if not carefull.I'd also say it is a tooth or two out.The trick is to have the crank timing mark a tooth before TDC, install the belt, release the tensioner, rotate the crank the extra tooth, tighten tensioner bolts and then recheck. By doing this you eliminate the slight slack in timing belt between crank and fuel pump which makes the pump spring back slightly.Did you rotate crankshaft after installing and tensioning to check the timing marks?

My friend installed the new timing belt & he said he did not move anything from where it was before. The thing is it started brilliant after that it all happened when we changed the fuel filter? I am goin 2 disconnect the battery this morning for an hour & what happens after that.

Check the timing belt again if it still rough, you'll never remove and replace the belt without the pulleys moving unless you lock the pulleys with a special tool. If you just put a new belt on withuot keeping it tight between the cam and pump, when you put the tensioner on the slack pulls the timing a tooth out.

Its all you've changed, so must be related.

The injectors usually self bleed, but after changing the filter it often hard to get fuel to the filter from the little pump on the top.

Tried starting it after disconnecting battery, no better. Looks like the car is going to have to be striped down again. If one of the cogs has moved how can I know the right postion?

All the relevant sprockets should be marked with a notch or line and they should line up with their corresponding marks on the engine casing.

Problem seems to be solved! My friend had a look @ the timing & it was 1 tooth out on the diesel pump! He put it right & everything seems to b o.k.

For your rear demister problem, look here to get to the connections....http://www.showmesome.info/hilux/workshop/rear_door.htm
It's most likely that it's a broken or detatched wire.
