fuel is all ok, there is NO power to the glow plugs,

That second relay, in front of the main Glow plug relay is the important one.
While I was working out a way to fit a glowplug bypass I found that disconnecting this smaller relay isolated power to the plugs.
For some wierd reason (like all surf wiring ) the glows still get power even when the "Glow Plug Relay" is disconnected, that is when I found the importance of the smaller one in front of it.
Let us know how you go.

        Another thing is compression.
This is the fun bit. If your engine is old / worn / low on compression then it will require a faster cranking speed to produce the correct compression in the cylinder for the diesel to detonate.
A 2.4 diesel will start form cold without the plugs IF the crank speed is fast enough. I can do it with two big batteries.

To replace the smaller Relay that is in fron of the main Glow-Plug relay.
Given the gauge of wire going in/out of it I would safely say that a standard 30Amp Relay will cut it !!
Go to your local auto parts supplier, I think you guys have Halfords or something like that and get a 30Amp relay that is usually used for spot lights etc.
It is no stretch of the imagination to replace the existing relay with that.
You may have to crimp or solder on some new terminals as most aftermarket relay come with 1/4'' or 6.5mm spade terminals.
                See how ya go there

                Cheers.

Even if you have no glow plugs, it should chug and splutter its way in to life after a minutes of cranking.

thats exactly what mine does and i thought i had a dodgy plug so changed them all. it can sometimes start with one crank but if your rev her she coughs and splutters loads.

I have now been told I probably need a new fuel stop solonoid, dont know whether this may help you? Is this an easy thing to change and does anyone have one?

I'd say they are just guessing and don't really have a clue.

If you have a 2L-T then that may be the case.If you have a 2L-TE they are talking S**T because they don't have one.Do not attempt the following test on a 2L-TE.

Simple test for a Fuel Cut Solenoid.Check if it clicks when ignition is switched on.If not then run a wire from battery +ive to solenoid to see if it operates. If it does then try starting the engine. If it starts then the solenoid will be ok and you have a problem between ignition and solenoid.

Note: If a jumper wire is connected to battery and solenoid then this will need to be disconnected to shut down engine.

                        Neville

whats the order, when i changed the plugs there was just nuts on the glow plugs and on the actual bus bar nut there was a load of different plastic washers which i put back in the right place. does that sound wrong DaveD?
