EGR valve mod

Hello,

Had the Surf for about 2 1/2 years and apart from having to replace the head after 2 weeks (there's lovely) its gone OK for about 40,000 miles.

I've spotted somewhere on this site that removing the EGR valve will increase available power. I tow a horse box all over the place so more power = good.

Where can I find the valve, and what do I do to isolate it?

I am fairly mechanically competent.

The photo suggests that the pipe is just pulled off and left. Is that correct?

Seems too simple to be real.

What can I expect to happen to the engine after removing the pipe?

pull the pipe , bend it in half then cable tie it to seal the end. or shove a ball bearing up it. easy as that

the valve is operated by a vacuum... i.e. that's what the pipe does.
remove the pipe and the egr won't operate.

on the pajero's they remove the complete valve assy and fit a blanking plate.

it increases NOX emmissions.... but they're not tested in the UK...
also changes the comustion temperature, but no reported problems.

so you and the environment both go quicker. Sounds fair to me.

I'll try that on mine and see how it goes, just out of curiosity what is an EGR valve, seems a bit like an appendix, makes no odds if you have one or not.

I done mine last year and noticed a bit more 'get up and go'
also I get less smoke belching out the back.

Just some follow up info - having done the EGR mod, it's difficult to say if there's much difference.

However, I've got to take the ponies up to Builth Wells for the weekend, from Porthcawl. I know the route with the Surf well, so I will know if there are any improvements by the time I get home on Sunday night.
