A few wee taps of a soft mallet to the side of the head will never do any harm.

Might help release the cylinder head too!

yep thats a new sweeping brush handle we need, tried to lever it off on the front hook, now to break something else!

you sure you removed all 18 bolts from the head, not known one yet not to just simply lift off

Isnt there any locating dowels for them heads.

$$$$$$hite, just recounted 17 bolts, i must be blind,, off out again........

done, a first for me as you might have guessed, found a sly bolt in alright, uploading pics in a minute....

first impressions are all valves are fine but I'm like a pig lookin at thunder, would I spot a bent valve a mile away?

as for surface of the head, the area above pot 1 (frontmost cylinder is no 1?) is fine, above 2 3 and 4 however are very black and pitted, no cracks though - whats up?

Looks like valve impact marks in the top of a couple of the pistons.

I'd pull the valves and roll the stems on something flat and make sure they are straight.

If they slide up and down in the valve guides nicely, its a good sign, if any are tight, the valve stem is propably bent.

Second one down looks like a small crack between the valves to me, although its hard to tell from the pic. Thats where they tend to go.

Best way to check bent valves is to fill the ports with petrol and see if it leaks past valves .
Definate valve to piston contact been caused .
Trouble with direct vertical valve set ups is that valve bending is hard to see as the damage can be sent further up into the valve assembley like followers etc .Worth checking valve assembley carfully . Transits suffer further impact damage with no actual valve damage .
