On a drive today the engine on my 2.4 surf just stopped and now won't start, I have tried jump starts to no avail. On closer inspection the 100amp Alternater fuse has blown. Any clues as to what is wrong?

It is probably a short in your elctrical circuit somewhere, check that no loose wires are touching the chassis especially wires from the alternator....

Just fitted a new 100 map fuse and the heap still wont start.
Can someone please point me in the general direction of what might be wrong?

its the 100 map fuse, try a 100 amp one and calling it a heap wont help.

        It wont start ???
So is it turning over, is diesel getting to the injectors, is the fuse still OK, have you checked for any wires shorting out as said before.

The fuse is fine, diesel is getting to the injectors, no signs of wires shorting out. While the engine is spinning, it just does not sound right, like the engine is not turning just the starter motor.

If your sure diesel is getting to the injectors while your turning the key then the engines gotta be turning over.
When it originally cut out did any warning lights come on, it may be worth doing a diagnostic check to see if any faults are indicated.

On a Diesel there are very few things that can actually stop the engine from firing if the fuel is getting to the injectors.

I would suspect that maybe the timing belt has slipped a tooth - not enough to cause the pistons to jam on the valves but enough to upset the timing. That would explain why it just stopped and won't restart.

I would get the timing checked.

An alternative may be a vacuum hose has come off but generally tbhe engine will start with these off even if it runs bad.

              Cheers

Sounds like the cam belt might have gone altogether!! OOOer, hope not.
Is there a fuel cut off switch on these? Worth checking.
Have you an alarm / immobiliser fitted? That could have thrown a wobbly.

Thank you all for your replies ( sorry about the heap remark, got carried away)
Just finally got it checked out and the Cam belt has gone, wrecking most of the top end. Only had the surf a couple of days.

Anyone got a 3.0td Surf for sale for little money?
