        fuel pump - please help!

        Hello everyone

        I'm a newbie here
i have some real trouble with my recently bought surf. probs of not starting and cuttting out once or twice - just like you, stevesx.

Took it to Toyota dealer and they diagnosed that it was the celuliod. They ordered the part in but then realised that with this import the celuliod and pump are one and the same. So, new pump!! They have quoted me almost 2000 pounds part and labour!!

        Does anybody have any ideas??

First question is, did you buy from a dealer and if so when? If you bought from a dealer, then you have a minimum 3 months warranty. If bought less than 3 months ago, take it back and get the dealer to fix it. If you bought privately then try giving Hilux a pm as he may have a second hand part.

Do you have an immobiliser fitted? These are sometimes connected to the fuel supply circuit.

              fuel pump

              Thanks for the speedy replies

I did buy from a dealer but he got it on a trade in as he deals in Mitsubishi's.

              It isn't on warranty either.

The problem is with the celuliod but the Toyota dealer here in Ipswich ordered a new one but then realised that with this particular Japanese pump the celuliod is part of the pump and not seperate.

I think you'll agree 2 grand is way off the mark! And I only really got it because it was great for shifting equipment to and from church.

for both the above I would start from basics, new fuel filters etc. Might be worth a try and disconnect the EGR on a temp basis to see if it has failed.
£2000 quoted from a dealer who diagnosed a fault then orders the wrong part Hmmmmmmmmmm????????

If you bought it from a dealer he has to give you a 3 month warranty irrespective of what cars he normally sells.

                    Hi all
Yes Leodis is right the dealer has to give you 3 months warranty?
go and see him tell him that the car was not fit for purpose and you are going to the trade + standards. Have a look on there web site it will tell you every thing there.

Good luck hope it works out 4 you.

                    Steve.

spend all of 20 seconds checking your glow plug fuse

check the 4 glow plugs themselves, do a search on here and do it yourself

what about air getting in somewhere, check all 4 injectors are tight (2 nuts each - not 1)

change the diesel filter, who can tell when this was last done

check the hose running from the diesel filter to the pump, the jubilee clip at the bottom end may have torn into the hose and air could be getting into the fuel - it happened to me and I had the symptoms you describe

                            fuel pump prob

                            thanks for latest suggestions.

Have sent dealer letter by recorded delivery - await his response.

The actual problem is the stop switch on the celunoid which is actually a part of the pump on this model, pump itself is ok, hence my reluctance to pay so much.

                            Cheers

                            martin

Surely a diesel pump reconditioners will be able to strip down your pump and replace the faulty part inside???? give a few a call it could save you some money!!
If it aint broke...........give it some more abuse!!!!!!!!
