  • Why can't we buy these?

Have a look at http://toyota.jp/Showroom/spc/surf/ and weep! Top-of-the-range model costs about £16k in Japan. There is also a very tasty V8 engined version available in the US - see http://www.toyota.com/4runner/

I dont like it....It's starting to look like all the other 4x4's on the road ie Rav's, CRV's, HRV's. Its starting to lose it's individuality, the only good thing is, it's still got the name, Surf......IMO of course.

agreed mate - they look like the new hilux pickups which I think are one of the most bland nowadays - 2nd gen look the best i think.

Yes, maybe (it's a matter of taste) but they still have the drop-down window in the tail-gate!

I quite agree, looks like any other run of the mill 4x4, don't like it at all, looks like a !!!!!! armoured vehicle, no character whatsoever.

S'pose it like everything else nowadays, done for budget and cheapness.Remember all the old cars had nice bits of chrome to polish, even the escorts (my first 1300gt), cortinas etc..... now they are all !!!!!! plastic

looks like a cross between Rav4 (front) and mitzi Shogun Sport [Back].

The US 4Runner is upto 4.0 Litre and tops out at 22MPG which I take it is a US Gallon which is less than the UK?

I see no resemblance to a Hilux in them at all. I dont understand why theyve kept the Hilux name seen as they arent related since '96. Would have thought the new surf is too 'SUV' to be associated with a pickup.

But I'd take it if theres a spare one around

3rd gen's all the same as the latest pickup (except the pickup bit of course!)... but i'd have thought they'd call it something a bit sportier seing as it is an SUV...

change the subhect... i out dragged a late model disco up a hill today!... i was in a DAF 65-220!

3rd gen chassis was the first not based on a pickup.

Ahhh DAF .... no two were made the same (till the Americans bought it)
