MPG etc
A US gallon is about 0.85 of an Imperial gallon.
The styling of the new models are largely governed by current safety and crashworthiness regs which our older models would never meet - to meet low speed impact and pedestrian impact standards, you pretty well have to have plastic bumpers etc. However, the new model still features body-on-frame construction whereas many of its competitors are monocoques. It would appear to have reasonable off-road ability as US brochures feature photos of the vehicles taken in the vicinity of Mt Everest Base Camp at over 17,000ft (although I suppose they could have helicoptered them up).
By the way, it appears this year is the 20th anniversary of the Hilux Surf and there is a special commemorative model available in Japan
