  • Lib Dem Policy Pledge

Just heard on the radio that the Lib Dems have promised to tax 4X4's off road if they come in power.

Anyone know if this is true.

I always want to be off road but how are we expected to get between the muddy stuff if they won't let us on the tarmac?
    Gone from 4x4 to 1x2

      Is it this?

It does beg the question that surely people with "gas guzzling" cars already pay a lot more tax through fuel?
      No longer a Surf owner.

They have two hopes of geting into power and one is Bob

"Gas Guzzlers" tend to be bigger, heavier than most other vehicles and therefore take up more space, create more damage to the roads, polute more, use more resorses, and on this basis there is no argument agianst taxing them more.

HOWEVER, this does not take acount of the vehicle use and or fuel type, therfore it does not seem atall rational to me to use a single "tool" (like interest rates for inflation) to overcome any of the congeston and polution problems.

When will politions wake up to the fact that we are not (well most of us) as stupid as them.

Ah, but we are as stupid as them... we elected the useless thieving rabble into power in the first place.

Time for a total change. We need to appoint our "leaders" and make payment for their services be capped at UK average earnings and to do what the majority of the population want, not what all these vocal minorities want.

We could do with a similar situation to the local US, where the citizens regularly elect judges, police chiefs etc, so that we can quickly get rid of those who are useless, e.g Lord Wolff, most Chief Constables, etc.

                  three things wrong with politicians

there should be a HEAVY tax on idiot politicians coming up with ridiculous ideas just to get in the paper. it should be squared if the idea becomes an act... do we take the country back, or invade New Zealand???
                  it's in me shed, mate.

Go and measure your Surf, my Renault 21 Savanna is 10" longer than the surf, and the same width.

The whole argument is crap. Politics really pi$$es me off.

You buy more fuel, you'll pay more tax, you can't help it! so your already paying extra for lower MPG cars.

Every party seems to have it's hobby horse, be it bikes, 4 x 4's, hunting, etc., etc. Recently a 1000 bike demo in London to raise awareness about diesel spills and there have been similar demos over the years when various governments have tried unfair legislation, 1000 bikes on the move is quite a spectacle........... imagine a 1000 4 x 4's!

Sounds good to me. Has been mentioned before about a go slow convoy through town.

I'm up for it. Feed up with idiots bad mouthing 4x4's. Would love to see them get any construction plant or machinery in the back of a micra, and drop it off at a muddy building site!

I'd rather be scared to death than bored to death

EXACTLY! This is the whole point they forget, not everyone has no life, no interests or no mates. Sometimes you require more space than the luggage rack on the local bus.
