    Probably best to combine the two
    A good well constructed winch tray bolted to the chassis with the appropriate sized and strength bolts and have the bumper bolted to the winch tray and the chassis or a combination of the both.
    On the front of the chassis there are four threaded holes and as many again underneath with some on the sides too
    Over fab are your friends for this.
    Eat.Sleep.Surf.Repeat.

      Right, so more mounting points at the front makes for a better base. interesting. I shall file this away till spring.

        When I get around to mounting a winch to my front bumper (probably next year now) I intend to spot weld the mounting bolts to stop those sticky fingered chavs in their tracks.

          Yes, a certain amount of 'interference' will slow the buggers down. I am also considering something like for the lightbar.
