ATF pipes...

...popped out today for a loaf of bread, as you do on a day off...returning to the truck there was a small puddle...

It seems the ATF pipes have given in to the rust....being a man on a tight budget (or is that a tight man on a budget), need some suggestions on the cheapest way to get some new ones?

I was wondering about getting some made, there currently steel (obviously as they're rusty) so pressure might be an issue with copper...I'd guess the auto box runs around 100psi.

Toyota is definately out of the question...so pipe makers anyone?

Back in the day I could have taken them to work!

Need wheels and tyres too..expensive month coming up :-(

The copper I used today was on a system rated at 50 bar/725 psi

It would laugh at 100 psi.

I have a roll of 3/8 10mm in the garage if you want it?

I'm hoping it will hang on till I can remove it in a week or so....I'll have a better idea what I need then.

it has a burst pressure of about 7000 psi should be ok?
I don't know what safety margin you want to work to?

The pipe is soft enough to bend by hand, but to get a nice radius you can use a hand bender or a spring, or indeed form it around something of the diameter of the radius you are after.
In my mind I am thinking cut out the bad section(s) swage the copper pipe and silver solder onto the existing pipe.

Just how I would go about it using the materials I have, hopefully someone can suggest something easier or cheaper?

fingers crossed the pipe hangs on as rain is predicted the next 4 days ... I really don't fancy pushbike to work in that.

Could you not just cut the pipe sleeve it will a bit of 10mm rubber pipe and some jubilee clips till you get the time to effect a more permanent repair?

thats not a bad idea...if its not near a joint it might buy some time. i'll check it out if its quiet at work tomorrow.

obviously you are trying to join an oil line so the clamps will have to be very tight , might work with mikalor style hose clamps better still I wonder if you could use a 10mm brake pipe union?

A bit of experience in my day job.I suppose.

A very very nice man from Pirtek got me out of the sh1te on a job that my company had supplied the wrong fittings for, I was in very rural Cornwall and seeing that dark blue van pull into the dairy was a welcome sight, he was also the very nice man who supplied my hose that I used for my ATF oil cooler.

If you could flare the ATF line to take a 10mm brake line flare nut I think they should be able to make up a hose or just give you the fittings to make up the line yourself.
It may not be what they are accustomed to doing on a daily basis but compared to hydraulic line pressures which they are used to doing the low pressure of the ATF line should be childsplay for them.
