Roof Rails & roof brace positions

Hi all,

I have bought some roof rails off ebay and am just looking to fit them over easter. Pics below:





I just wanted to check a few things first.

1. Does anyone know the exact positions of the roof braces? I want to double check the roof rails won't foul on them before i take out the headlining.

2. Does anyone have a link to or can give me some instructions on how to remove the headlining - any hidden screw or bolts etc?

3. Any pictures of the sunroof from inside the truck with the headlining removed? I wan to make sure/calculate how far away the front of the rail will have to be without fouling on the sunroof as it opens.

... I also wish i could see closer up on what had to be cut away around the sunroof.

When I fitted mine I didn't touch the sunroof.
As long as you position the rear most 'feet' of the rails as close to the rubber surround of the rear side windows as possible, you'll clear everything to do with the sunroof.

I'll try and find a photo of mine, fitted, but it was nine years ago so the photos may have gone during the great forum crash of 2006 ..........

Just putting this here to save me switching windows - yes, i'm that lazy

Remove all rear trim, grab handles, front windsreen trim, interior lights, and the beading arounf the sunroof.Remove the four clips that hold up roof lining, it's best if you have an assistant to stop the lining folding.

Remove sunroof, once again it's best if you have a helper as the sunroof does get heavy after a while.

Measure, measure, measure and then measure again. Drill a small pilot hole, then the big bolt hole.

If you don't have a sunroof, or the rails you get are less than 5 foot you won't have to modify the sunroof mounting like we had to here. So forethought before purchasing your rails will pay off.

When fitting for the final time use plenty of goo to seal any gaps so you can't get water seppage.

Doesn't she look good. This is how they should have left the factory.

Is it an optical illusion or are the rails on a slight angle? I was planning on mounting them about 1.5 inch in from the edge, enough to just clear the sculpted ridge, your looks like they're mounted on the curve of the roof?

Yep looking from the back of the truck, the rails tilt outwards slightly.
