  • Rear Window..! not again...doh!

Hi guys. '95 3.0L 4Runner. Rear window goes up and down from the console inside. but will only go up on the key in rear door. won't go down...( I know, no jokes about ex girlfriends, please.)
My question is : Does this mean the relay is knackered or could it just be the rear door switch?
    Cheers in advance.

    No...it'll be the wire/connections.

If the switch can move it both ways then the relays are fine.

Had the exact same problem with mine. Only key down didn't work.

I fitted a whole new cable from the key barrel to the control board.

Check the barrel first. Take it apart and check insides. Mine was like new.

    Switch:

Rest (link as pic is huge):

Do a continuity test on the green and yellow wire. Page 122 (in that long one) will show you it goes from 2 to 17 on the board. But the small pic, above, shows it.

Port number is on the actual large plug that connects to the board.

        Not the wire....

Hi Sylux (and anyone else reading this)
Only today got round to checking the continuity.
Bit of a job getting to the relay box, wot!.
Anyhow got there, all connections A1 OK.
So back to rear door switch , took it to bits and it appears its the contacts on the back of that little plastic disc....see photo.
There's continuity in the wires but the silver contact strip has corroded/worn away on the "down" contact..a bit blurred in the pic I'm afraid.
So next question can I get a replacement part anywhere ??
It's the bit from the door lock barrel to the first connector.

Ah yeh...that's why I said "check the barrel first". That can wear on a lot.

Easy to remove (as you've found) and replace. Did you try bridging the gap to make sure every thing still works? Easy to do with a small bit of wire in some pliers

You best bet is to ask someone breaking if they have one. A scrappy or a sales trawler will charge a lot for it. But not a private breaker.
