My uncle had the plate A1 on a 1970s Mini 850. It was during the fuel crisis and to set an example he chopped in his Roller for the Mini. It only had 2 seats though - a normal (leather covered) one in the front for the chauffeur and an armchair in the back for Uncle John.
The plate belonged to Dunlop tyres (UJ was a director) and was sold to the Japs along with the rest of the company.Comment
