Bought myself another car for £250 so I can save up to fix the surf.

Anyone know where you can get an AMC 2.8 head from?
well, that was a bad idea!

The head and gasket set will cost you ~£500 if you do it yourself. You would get around £400 for your truck as is..

Add another £300 or so and you can get a 3.0.

        Worth thinking about.

A 3.0 for 800 would be a rotten shed. Mines a pretty good example and not ready for the scrap. I would rather repair, plus there's the insurance issue.

To get another 2nd gen as tidy I would be looking around £1500. And knowing my luck, it would blow its head in 6 months.
well, that was a bad idea!

So after reading through the thread (as it was only four pages) did you see that the timing belt was all good or do you have two issues; the head and the belt slipped?

Got the cambelt cover off today, and I believe the belt has slipped, with cam and pump pulleys on the marks, the woodruff key cutout is at 11 o'clock, am I right in thinking it should be up at 12?

Also the harmonic pulley outer ring fell off after I un bolted the 2 outer pulleys, and has ruined my cam cover again!!!!!
well, that was a bad idea!

Oh my god! Thanks Vince! Thats amazing. I realigned it all, found the tensioner has play in it, but I re aligned it all, started it without the belt cover on, and no belts, had loads of warning lights but expected that and it was lovely, revved up nice and have turbo noises again.

So thats it for now, going to get a new belt kit at the end of the month. Timing cover will be reused, only missing a little bit luckily.

Hmmm, just noticed my cambelt is a Goodyear one.... Eww! Going to get a nice yota one along with a new idler gear. Think I may keep the little 306 as its doing 55 mpg. Insure both and save the mileage on the surf, hopefully that way I'll be fixing it less. And saving monies for when fixing is needed. Yeah!

Do you know when the belt was last changed?

                                Nice one Muddle!
At the very best we were getting 48mpg out of my mums 1.6 Diesel turbo i30. That is motorway driving at sensible speeds and by going from the dash computer. So cheap to run in comparison.
