I get this on my 3rd gen. I tried putting one of those exhaust tips that you see on a lot of "modified" cars on, but it didn't make any difference. (http://www.ebay.ie/itm/Chrome-exhaus...item3cd0688733)
My idea was to move the end of the exhaust further from the window, or use the angled end to push fumes away.
My mechanic reckons that what I'd need to do is change the shape of the back by adding a spoiler or something similar.
My last 3rd gen didn't have a door fitted spare, but this one has; they both had the same problem with fumes.

Same problems occurs sometimes with pick-ups fitted with a canopy. On sandy roads the load bay fills up with dust. If you pressurise the load bay by slightly opening the front flap of the canopy the muck stays out (kalahari driving tip n. 322!).
Good luck
