You need to take off the interior lights, sun visors and top plastic trim from around the roof. You dont strictly need to take off all of the plastic trim if you're confident you can pull enough of the lining down to get the wire through without creasing the lining. A bit of a faff, but easier to do than describe.

You could get further with a home made Yargi aerial but I am talking of around 30 ft tall and fixed to a gate post or similar.Alan

A Yagi for 27MHz is huuuge, and a bit beyond home construction if you're not REALLY into radio! I think you're probably thinking 1/2 wave whip with groud plane elements?
