    My two penneth....

Its a mistake to put it in any engine! Its a bodge at best, waste of money at worst.

If you're not losing coolant and its not overheating, leave it alone. If you're loosing coolant find the leak.

I was saving that for later. It's a poor 'engineer' that uses the likes of K-Seal "just in case".

        reply from Kalimex

Thank you for your email. I read the thread on the forum and one thing that's clear is that none of the posters mentioned that they had personally used K-Seal. Unfortunately K-Seal often gets tarred with the same brush as other decades old radiator stop leaks. However, K-Seal is a totally new technology which really does do what it says on the tin and does it safely.

thanks to those who gave good helpful advice all of which has been taken on board and I will certainly keep a good eye on the coolant and temperature.

In reply to your reply, yes you are probably right in the fact that no one that replied has used this wonder cure.
I can not vouch for the others but can from personal experience say that I will not recommend such a product.

I have used this forum for a few years now and can say that the when I have posed technical questions the answers I have received have been garnered from people with many many more years experience of Surf ownership and repairs than you.

There is an attitude to most snake oil products and more often than not that attitude is earned.

Perhaps if you can as the advertising claims suggest fix cracks for the life of the engine, when the next forum member finds that his truck has cracked it's head, would you be prepared to supply him a bottle and stand by your claims.

On another point the OP posted in the General Interest section, and I am surprised it stayed on topic for as long as it did.

If the OP wanted a serious reply he would of been better off posting in the technical section.

Oh and by the way it is the internet and somebody said something you didn't like my my has that happened before.....

Shadyadie please do take note of peoples advice on here, some are very errm... 'frank' in their responses but it is the internet after all.

If there is only one thing to know about Surfs, it is that the cooling system must be well maintained. Most people on here obviously have background knowledge of these vehicles and it's worth listening to them. It's saved me a lot of time and money in doing so could save any headaches you may have.

BTW If you're keeping an eye on the Temp Gauge in the car, it's worth knowing the standard setup isn't exactly accurate... see the mod below

The reason for posting was to get info from experienced surf owners, I stated right from the start I was new to this

I have not made any claims, but I did post a reply to an email I sent to Kalimex

It was posted in the general because I was looking for good places to buy parts and was seeking experience and knowledge of suppliers.

I knew heads were an issue, hence the Kseal, but never appreciated how bad the problem is. (or is it the only thing that kills them)

Landrovers have a bad rep with heads going especially on the 3.9 V8, but rot usually kills them first

Is there an easy way to find out if this mod has been done or not?

What mod? If you mean the temp sensor one then yes it has.
well, that was a bad idea!

I wouldn't worry about that lot, they just like having little digs at people sometimes. Keep up the correct spelling and they'll be good as gold in no time.

On the head problem, yes, it tends to be the thing that kills them as it becomes not worth fixing.

I mean to find out if it's been done on my surf already as my temperature gauge goes to the centre and sits there like the gauge on the right

If the mod has been done it would fluctuate. If not you dont know its overheating until its too late.
well, that was a bad idea!

And after getting the info you decided to ignore it and go for the answer you wanted.

I have not made any claims, but I did post a reply to an email I sent to Kalimex
I did not state you had made the claims.I was replying to the reply that you posted.

You received the advice on where to get the parts and when you said the garage had stuffed k seal in the truck you had some replies about the getting rid of the stuff and was it potentially hiding a nasty surprise for you.

I knew heads were an issue, hence the Kseal, but never appreciated how bad the problem is. (or is it the only thing that kills them)
It is debatable on how bad the problem is.My opinion is that the head design "flaw" is not that much of an issue, most of the trucks seemed to have lasted a fair few years before the cracking issue has raised its' head(), most vehicles of this age have their failings some are a lot worse than others.
MY challenge still stands if K seal is that good then they can ante up and prove it, but until they do it is in my and many others opinion, nothing but papering over the cracks. However if they can and do prove otherwise Kudos to them.

Landrovers have a bad rep with heads going especially on the 3.9 V8, but rot usually kills them first Possibly true but totally irrelevant.

As has been stated before get rid of the K seal.Make sure the cooling system is in good working order, then if you are still worried about your head get a combustion gas check done and if it comes up positive take the truck back to garage and get them to fix it properly.

On a final note exactly how shady are you?

Also to note, this is a reply to your man, I stated in a comment that k-seal leaves a sandy gluey residue, I said this as I have used it, k-seal isnt that new, there is a newer better one called steel seal. I have used both at the request and cost of others and neither work. I now have to do the head gasket on the escort that used it and the oener is £30 lighter at a complete loss.

They might work sometimes but it wont be permanant. You're bettet off doing the job properly first off.
well, that was a bad idea!

I've tried K-seal in my Pug 106 diesel, and various others in Surfs, nothing worked for long, that was after religiously following the instructions, which I doubt most people do as its very tedious.

You really need to fix things, rather than just stuff goop in the gaps, thats all these things do.

Ah, the words 'snake' and 'oil' spring to mind.

If there's a problem, fix it. If there isn't, don't touch it. Either way, there is no room for 'additive' this, 'water-fuel' that, 'catalyst' the other.

At the end of the day it's all bullshit to take money off the unwary, and hide underlying problems.
