Had my first run out in my newly purchased surf and all went ok. Was pulling trailer with one horse in. Had to work the engine hard up the hills but temp gauge stayed in the safe zone. But engine was giving off some heat into the cab!!!

pulling heavy trailors on a regular basis, the standard gauges can't be
trusted.Last edited by Bazcam; 2 July 2012, 22:16.Still on a mission.

All I am saying is be careful because in the event of a mishap, your insurance may be invalidated as you constitute a danger on the roads. Chances of being stopped are very low.
I am fairly sure that someone posted the towing weights for the various genre of Surf on this forum sometime ago.Last edited by Surf01; 2 July 2012, 11:23.

It's a fat old horse if it weighs more than that, even with the trailer!!!

Been trawling the web for more info and most say the same there is no official weight so really you can't be penalised for being over weight.
Towed the trailer last time with two horses on the back of my passat tdi just slightly over weight lol but pulled like a train.

Try searching 4 runner instead of Surf. The 4 runner is for the USA market and all the weights and stats are there. No difference except they are left hand drive.
A 2.4L is definitely not rated to tow in excess of 1500kgs. Actually after reading Road Traffic Act (Construction and use) I am not sure whether you can tow with a Surf as it has no plated weights.

BTW, my mum tows a caravan (with her Mondeo, she's too old to tow it herself) also within the law but completely irrelevant.Do you know that, with a 50 character limit, it's
