  • Panic buying

Been an article on the news about 80 RAF drivers to be trained to drive petrol tankers, and its caused a spate of panic buying, nearly every petrol station in Macclesfield has long queues at the pumps,or is sold out completely, mainly of diesel.

RAF driving tankers? Oh o! No no, it will be fine. I should imagine the fuel strikes will be quite mild, the last time the fuel strikes happened there was chaos for 3 days then gone!

Our local Tesco had run out of everything by mid afternoon on Sunday - unfortunately I was running on fumes and had to pay £1.50 a litre to fill up the Fawkus !

Does that mean we can do inflight re fuelling

On a serious note i hope to drive from Holyhead in Wales to Folkestone on the 3rd April, should I carry extra fuel just how bad is the panic buying.

There will be no shortages if folk don't panic buy. It's the panic buying and hoarding that causes the shortages.

Can someone explain to me the mindset behind the panic buying in the first place? I cannot put two and two together, why would the training of RAF make people buy fuel? Don't all army personell get trained to drive the highest class of HGV type vehicles anyway? When we were kids just 18 my friend had a whole string of letters on his license, even amphibious vehicles! Although he was not in the RAF but this isn't something new?

Tanker drivers have voted in favour of strike action. The media has whipped up its usual frenzy and the sheep are falling for it again.

                    What he said !

Many Forces personnel are LGV drivers but not many are trained to operate fuel tankers ...

                      Thanks for clearing that up!

Can't we all round up some penny jars and make our own TV advert that says something along the lines of "Don't panic buy, you tw@ts!"

We could put it on between the Strictly Come Dancing show, in the ad-break (or other reality rubish that is on these days)...

I hadn't noticed anything like this going on, until today, when I nipped into the local Asda. Diesel has suddenly shot up from 141.7 to 143.7!! And chuffing long queues at the pumps, on a weekday morning?! Absolute madness!
It's only kinky the first time...

Chaps I agree completely with the criticism of the idiotic panic buying mindset. My plan was to drive thru the UK fuelling as necessary but if garages have run out I will miss Eurostar connections and hotels etc.
Just how bad is it at the moment, here in N Ireland I have not noticed any changes.
