Been an article on the news about 80 RAF drivers to be trained to drive petrol tankers, and its caused a spate of panic buying, nearly every petrol station in Macclesfield has long queues at the pumps,or is sold out completely, mainly of diesel.

On a serious note i hope to drive from Holyhead in Wales to Folkestone on the 3rd April, should I carry extra fuel just how bad is the panic buying.Last edited by Vultch; 28 March 2012, 09:52.__________________

Can someone explain to me the mindset behind the panic buying in the first place? I cannot put two and two together, why would the training of RAF make people buy fuel? Don't all army personell get trained to drive the highest class of HGV type vehicles anyway? When we were kids just 18 my friend had a whole string of letters on his license, even amphibious vehicles! Although he was not in the RAF but this isn't something new?Oh Nana, what's my name?

Thanks for clearing that up!
Can't we all round up some penny jars and make our own TV advert that says something along the lines of "Don't panic buy, you tw@ts!"
We could put it on between the Strictly Come Dancing show, in the ad-break (or other reality rubish that is on these days)...Oh Nana, what's my name?

Chaps I agree completely with the criticism of the idiotic panic buying mindset. My plan was to drive thru the UK fuelling as necessary but if garages have run out I will miss Eurostar connections and hotels etc.
Just how bad is it at the moment, here in N Ireland I have not noticed any changes.__________________
