  • Bumpers off.

Removed my horrible rusty rear quarter bumpers today. TBH I wish I had done it ages ago,the Truck looks cleaner and not to bad without them. There are a couple of good M8 fixings, I will prob fabricate two 2" stainless pipes for each side and put in thier place.

Wouldn't mind doing that myself, it's bending the s/s tube that puts me off, i have a 5" hole on each side where i was going to exit the twin exhausts before i did the 3" s/s one, as luck would have it the holes cut out the rust as well, pics asap Dave

You wont be able to bend the stainless tube Ian it just will not work, you would have to weld on the bends and polish the welds out. Wont be doing it for a while as no time at moe when I do I will post pics.

Why can you not bend stainless? Does it snap or crush? Can it not be bent if you heat it? Why do I care?

Take the tube to an exhaust place they'll bend it for you ? for a small charge no doubt but can't be that expensive for a couple of bends.

An exhaust bending machine won't be able to bend stainless tube, you'd need a heavy duty electro/hydraulic mandrel bender.

Sorry should have been more specific.

I meant some where that does SS exhausts like Powerflo etc

The very thin ferritic stainless can be formed, its the material these so called stainless exhausts are made of, very low nickel content and will rust/rot and flake away. If we are talking 316 Dairy tube the likes of what I send to Vince and Ian you will not bend it, if you do it will look like its been run over by a Tank. That is why 90 degree bends 45 tees reducers etc are supplyed, tigged on with 25 litres of Nitrogen purging the inside of the pipe if needed, and in the right hands you can achieve an almost flush weld with no burn through. Its done in the Food industry so that food deposits do not collect on the inside of the pipe, also if the pipe is to be "Pigged" which is sending a food grade rubber ball through the pipework propelled by air or nitrogen to purge any valuable food content to source of use.

My point was that you ain't gonna bend a piece of stainless suitable for making bumpers that easily !

Cool, already got my rears off when i bought it, looks alot better without and the clearence even just feels better. daft but it does. Im gonna have two pipes made to fit the corners but black
Ive seen it done when i had my old cars pipes done which involves heat but other than that ive no knowledge on bending stainless steel but i would think thats specialist stuff.
