Funny how a lot of people who are proud of looking out for number one end up sounding more like number twos.

I help people when ever I can if they are stuck, and never been 'fawked over'.
Without fail everyone I've ever helped out has been grateful and friendly.
You must be doing it wrong or expecting to much, better make sure you get a sticker made for the truck saying please don't help me if I'm in trouble.

Well I for one am really (oddly) looking forward to the snow, I've signed up to a local group and put my name down for response work over the winter.
I am fairly new to the area I live in and last winter we were hit by the worst snow fall the area has seen in 17 years, I saw the trucks from the local group out and about helping were they could and it was part of what made me buy my surf. It wasn't all pulling stricken BMW's out of parking spaces or high profile rescues etc, some of them were out delivering meals on wheels to the old folk, taking nurses to the hospital for the night shift etc, for me I think that was one of the most important things anyone could have done in winter time, I really was impressed, non of them did it for any more reward than the feeling they got from helping out, I really hope I can be a part of that this year!
If your so concerned about come backs then print off some disclaimers about damage caused etc, swings and roundabouts tho mate, I was on a pay and play day on Sunday and recovered a landrover so many times I ended up blowing my front diff, I don't hold him responsible it's one of them things and next time it may be me that needs recovered.

Helping sick/elderly etc is different....I hadnt even considered that if I'm honest. I was solely wondering where I stood re the recovering of stricken cars.
I might look into local 'running about' as it were. Not for the warm fuzzy feeling though, just because some people have no choice but to stay at home and be cut off. Venturing out into 2 feet of fresh snow in a normal 2wd car is doomed from the outset.

Theoretical situation but I`d be just as grateful to someone for delivering a cooked meal to my grandad in bad weather as I would be to someone who stopped to help my sister if she was stuck at the side of the road on her way home from work.
