I had an account with Alliance and Leicester purely for their high interest introductory offer. Santander bought that company and everything was transferred over / rebranded. The introductory offer ended and I withdrew all the savings back to my other account. Around six months past then I received a letter from Santander telling me that they had charged me £5 for not using my account. I called them and closed the account, the bloke on the phone apologised and waved the charge of £5 that placed me overdrawn. I didn't realise I had some outstanding interest earned sitting in that account so he also credited this interest back to my other account with another bank. Account close, job done.
Six months pass again, and I receive another letter from Santander stating words to the fact of:
Anoyed at the fact they still have me on record with an obviously "active" account I call their complaints line.
- Apparently the last person didn't close the account due to there being a pending overdrawn charge. Even though he waived the fees.
- I was charged due to Santander changing their policy.
I was given another apology, account closed and fees waived, and sent a bottle of alcoholic beverage as a kind gesture
