Have a look at a Minari. It fits all your criteria except the tax free bit. There are two on Ebay at the moment and one on Pistonheads.

As an alternative to the kit car idea,why not purchase a new MGB bodyshell from the heritage people that make them,and build a "new" MGB from scratch,you could use a scrapper as the donor car but new bits for the important stuff,brakes and what have you.

cos it'll rust faster than you can build it just like the originals

and when its finished its gonna handle like a camel and be slower than a 1970's vw polo

How about an MG with a bare metal rebuild, stiffened floor and the complete running gear from an RV8 ?

My brother bought it a few months ago - 0-60 in sub 6 and it handles better than standard (Not too difficult I know) AND he doesn't pay road tax !

its got a lever arm front and a cart rear same as the 1800. they handle like camels too and have the extra grunt to make them scary.

there used to be a shocker conversion and a 4 link rear kit available - it helps but don't expect miracles on an ancient king pin front end.
