im going for a hunt of a second hand diff, (it doesn't look too difficult to change)
if it doesn't make any difference i go for the bronze bushes like bigbobe said.
by the way ANYONE WITH A FRONT DIFF??
Give (lee) supersurf a shout as he will sort you out with a decent diff and decent price

        Rear is 8".

Don't think it'll be the diff. That should be disengaged? Could you describe the noise? Is it constant or only at certain times?

constant noise, you will hear more when 50,or 60m/h and feel it under your feet.
when connect 4wd it doesn't do it strait away, you feel the rear connect but not the front till a while, and when is time to disconnect 4wd i need to stop, start, reverse, then is off,
today, started it from cold reversed and heard a clack, and again this afternoon.

when im in soft ground and not traction (or not enough traction) to keep on going, so i engage 4wd.

If it happens with the 4wd on and off, it's not going to be the front diff. Have you checked obvious things like the prop shafts? What happens if you jack it up and turn the front wheels (in 2wd, obviously)?
