It may interest you to know that the 1's and 0's doesn't do it either, if you are determined to retrieve the data. There are devices in which you can put the platters of a drive, and then move the heads to the edge of the tracks where you will find the residual magnetism of what was there before the erase process.
The only way to be sure is to physically destroy the platters. Big hammer and / or fire works.
