  • ebay feedback

I bought some paints a few months ago on ebay which came with a free old laptop.
When I got back from Manchester wwith them I went through them 1 by 1 to discover that out of 100+ tins of paint only 35 were any good, the rest had gone off.
But the worst bit was the laptop, it had saved files and links to underage porn on it. Needless to say that has been handed straight to the police who are investigating it.
Anyway I put a complaint in to ebay and the seller offered me a measly £50 back and said it was her husband selling on her account and nothing to do with her.
Obviously I left negative feedback mentioning the paint and laptop problems.
Anyway , today I recieved a message from ebay saying to seller is requesting a feedback change as she doesn't want negative feedback and especially the laptop mentioned...
Wtf did she expect. When i demanded a refund she said her husband was aware there was something on the laptop but forgot to mention it.
I even said when i collected it I may give it to my son as I already have one for work and he said nothing........

Why would someone leave all that on there?? Very confusing.

Surely before sale, the seller, who has already looked to see what's on the laptop and seen all that obscene stuff on the machine, would have wiped it clean or reinstalled the OS.

There's no way on this world anyone with have a brain cell would have sold it like that.

Fair play to you for handing it on to the cops. You must have got a shock
    Now it's time to play!

We didn't open the files as the titles were bad enough. We took it to the police station , they took the name and address of the person we bought it off, then rang a few days later to say a specialist had looked at it and it was definately being investigated .
It was just a shock today how the seller contacted me through ebay to ask me to change to feedback , even though they had admitted knowing something was on there.
I checked some of the paiints while there and they seemed fine, but later on I spent 5 hours going through them and found out that they obviously know they were going off as they had added thinners to them to thin them down , hence why they seemed ok at first glance.

It just amazes me like how you said someone would sell/give away the laptop knowing what was on it and not delete it.......

It's a good job i didn't let my lad go on it before we checked it...

Makes me sick. A younger bloke at work was asked if he could take a look at a new starters laptop as it was playing up. Whilst he was sorting it out he found photos like what you mentioned. All I know is that the police were called and the new starter escorted never to be seen again.

With regards to the paint you bought, file a complaint through Paypal to get 100% of your money back. Explain exactly what has happened and Paypal will sort it. Although you need to wait a short while.

You'd have thought some negative feedback on ebay would be a pretty trifling concern, next to the fact that you've discovered stuff like that on their laptop. Some people are absolutely mental

Yep, he's in a world of shit. Neg feedback will feel like a holiday in a few weeks

As you're in Kiddy, that laptop will probably land on my mate's desk as his team do WM Police IT forensics. The plod don't do their own.

No I'm not worried about Neg feedback and the paint.
The laptop was handed straight to the police the same day along with the sales receipt and the details of where it was from.
It has been passed on to Manchester police apparently for them to contact the seller .
They even thanked us for handing it in so quick and for not just destroying it
So no I'm not worried about anything . It was the seller pannicking about feedback etc.

it sounds like the laptop had a virus, and they knew about the virus, said virus will post up all kinds of 'orible stuff you dont want to see, i doubt he is a kiddy fiddler and letting you have his laptop, that would be suicide.

Viruses don't put "saved links" on your computer afaik...

I got a bad virus a while back, which when on IE8 would just open a random web page, or close the one you were on... some were ok, most weren't.

Wiping a hard drive is much harder than it seems, a standard format does little to wipe any info on the drive. I once formatted a drive by mistake, got everything back with a program called "get data back" Ideally you need something that re writes zero`s onto the drive a few times over. You should never sell a computer without doing this even if its just to prevent something as hum drum as identity theft
