As for TonyN and the flat 6 it's either a Tribeca, a Legacy, or one of those very rare engine transplants very few people undertake!!
Which ever one it is, i say nice one!!
ETA: I've just looked at your mini profile and you drive a Legacy. Nice one!!Last edited by ROMEROTECH; 18 July 2011, 12:00.Now it's time to play!

Your statemenet:
Properly tuned Scoobies don't sound like that, it's just the boy racer shite that sounds stupid.

My final word on this because with the greatest respect your sweeping statements and generalisms are highly misinformed and utter drivel!!
You can tune whatever noise you like via exhaust tuning on any car you like whether highly modified/tuned or not.
However, there are many 350-650bhp properly tuned Subaru Impreza in the world, burbling their exhausts off because they can. These vehicles are properly tuned, have had thousands spent on just the engine internals alone, have big turbos and are remapped and tuned up to the eyeballs.
Many customers like them with the burble thereby they fit unequal length headers, however, said vehicles are very properly tuned, just like Impreza with equal length headers that hardly burble at all!!
Which bit of this are you having a problem with? Now it's time to play!

None of it, properly tuned Subaru's don't make that silly noise, they use mismatched, unequal if you like (and therefore untuned) headers to create the noise.
There are pro's and cons for both, but both types are tuned to provide certain characteristics. Each to their own application but both are found on well tuned high power Subaru's.
I think we'll just have to agree to dissagree. Now it's time to play!

Both are properly tuned and make similar outputs yet you don't agree just because one burbles!!
Agree to differ.....Absolutely!!

I would just like to apologise to the OP for hijacking this thread.
Looking back through this thread, and at just how long myself and Albannach have burbled on for, i can only say sorry, and it won't happen again.
I'll get a room next time!!
As for Vulcan Bombers....A few months back one of those monsters flew over my house. Not only did i jump out of my skin but the house nearly fell to bits from the engine noise vibration as it was flying so ###### low.
Agreed that does sound better than any scooby, by miles!!Now it's time to play!

While we're drifting shamelessly off topic ...
There's only one Vulcan left flying and that's XH558 and they don't run it anywhere near full power so you were VERY lucky !
In the early 80's I was posted to Benbecula and while I was there they used the airfield for practising bombing runs prior to going down to the Falklands and having a go at Port Stanley airfield. When they went down there they bombed from high level but the initial practice was done at low level
They announced the practice runs to the residents at 01:00 one morning by doing a low level bombing run in a Vulcan and hitting full power as they went over the quarters - military aircraft aren't allowed below 200' when flying over habitation but according to the guys in the control tower the run was well below that. To be woken from the depths of sleep by 4 Rolls Royce Olympus engines at full chat is an experience never to be forgotten !
Life is too important to take seriously !
