  • Incorrect mileage on MOT!

Instead of kilometres the tester has put miles on the MOT. The vehicle's trip is definitely in kilometres and not miles although the speedo has the miles facia on it an is calibrated correctly. Checking the two previous MOTs, again they have it as miles and not kilometres.
How do I go about rectifying this abnormality and is it possible to change the trip from kilometres to miles and have it certified? The vehilce was imported in 2009.

The tester was told that it was kilometres but still put down miles. I think I may need to contact VOSA but supplying proof may be difficult.

Why go to the trouble? Sounds like more hassle than its worth and just giving yourself more work. I'm sure both my Surfs have been wrong on the MOT when they put Miles or KMs. My house hasn't fallen down yet!

Okay thanks. A bit annoying when you specifically mention it and they still do it in miles! I prefer kilometers instead of this outdated mode called "miles" as where we lived overseas everything was decimal.

I have it on good authority from the man upstairs(the big guy) that if he had meant the world to work in kliks we would all have been born over the other side, the channel that is.
As one or two said "who cares " really

I can see few reasons to care about this.

                1. A certain amount of Obsessive Compulsive behaviour where the incorrect MOT will irritate you like a spelling mistake in your favourite novel.

                2. When you come to sell it the new buyer might be particularly dense and not understand the Miles/MOT issue when you explain it to them.

                3. Innate paranoia that the business mileage on your tax return and the counter and MOT on the truck don't match and a particularly anal and uncompromising auditor may accuse you of cooking your books and claiming more fuel than you should be.

Contact VOSA arrange for it to be taken to one of their test centres. One of their testers will reissue a correct certificate.
Put in a complaint about the MoT tester for incorrectly filling out the computer after you pointed out that the odomete was reading kms. Find an MoT tester you can trust.
                    Gone from 4x4 to 1x2

Surf01 I have to agree with you and Maverick. I made sure that when I aquired my first MOT it was recorded in Kilometers. The MOT station tried to convince me that they could not print it in kilometers. They did change it in the end after a heated row.....and at and before every subsequent MOT I produced the last one and pointed out the kilometers recorded.
It will make it hell of a lot easier to convince any propective buyer that the high milage is in fact low milage

Then leave it about three months before burning down the MOT testing station one night with an local angry mob you have managed to gather together after spreading the word. I can supply wood and rags if you wish to make burning torches.

                        Cheers,

I love the concept that someone is going to look at a fifteen year old clocked import and worry about what units the mileage is in...
