I dont think there's any way of telling if the belt has been changed other than a visual check and if your going to remove the cover to do that i'd personally just stick a new belt on anyway, to cancel out the timeing belt light just remove that tiny rubber plug in the dash instruments plastic front and poke the small switch with a longish thin rod, the light on dont mean the belts fawked, it comes on after so many thousand miles, works off the odometer, just a reminder that it's comeing up for belt renewal,
anyway if your unsure of it's past service history i'd give it a good service inc flushing the coolant throughly, new coolant, stat, cap, oil, filters, grease the transmission, check the diff's levels, check the colour/level of the trans fluid (if it's an auto, never checked) new breaks, new tyres, new calipers!!!
it never ends! still faffing about with mine after 6 years
looks a decent truck for 800, lucky sod, i paid 3 grand back then, ###### 2.4 as well, 3lt's were well out of my range, good scrub up and you'll be surprised how good it'll look,

Had the chance for a good poke around.
engine is missing nthe a/c belt but allthe switch gear in the cab lights up as it should.
the pulling to the curb is likely the tracking as the nearside lower ball joint has been replaced.
tyres.. legal but need replaced.
powersteering fluid was low so i topped it up. will change it soon.
engine oil is black and near the bottom mark so again ripe for a refresh. The lower part of the sump is very oily underneath with the sump plug having a small drip off it. no signs of leaks higher up.
cleaned up the interior and generally given it a good wash. she is at the garage getting tracking sorted at mo, but when i get my own laptop back ill post up some more pictures
some rust in the driverside door bottoms and the alarm (a coby cat one) has some "eccentricities"
stuck 20 liters of desiel in and she is happy as a pig in muck.
gave the truck a wash yesterday... she scrubs up nice.
also changed the oil today. just a precurseor to a proper change as im driving to london on monday to go back to work so couldnt leave it. need to find a filter and next time i do it in a few weeks i'll use wyns engine flush too.
Had a proper look at the underside, and there is a lot of old oil around the bottom of the bell housing. no signed of leaks. im wondering if the movement of the gear selector upon acceleration is an indication of worn gearbox mount and subsequent damage to the rear crack seal leading to a slow leak.
any advice would be awesome. for now ive cleaned up the under side and any new leaks will be obvious.
also went and gave a mate a hand with his steering box on an old 88 inch landy.
and subsequent damage to the rear crack seal leading to a slow leak.
Well done that man!......Keep up the good work.........By the way, someone should be along shortly to deal with the double entendre (My money's on Slobo).....Cheers....Mick.
going up home this weekend. we have got a new gear box mount to go on and the fan belt and aircon belt. all from rough trax.
she now wears underseal on all the big bits and is a little more protected.
however i cannot for the life of me figure out out to get the spare whel out from under her?
owners book doesnt appear to apply to my modelas theres no hole for the jack.
could someone point me inthe right direction? (i'll revist this firday night when i get home.. no internet acces inthe barracks)
reason for the rear gear box mount is some movement of the gear selectors when comeing to a stop and or pulling away. plus a weepy crank seal. ...we shall see if the new mount stop the movement and leaking.. if not then the gearbox gotta come out.... just a 5 minute job lol ....

There should be a bar set and jack under the rear seats, the hook end of the bar goes through a the hole in the back bumber into a small winch type assembly, give all of it a good squirt of WD40 and turn anti-clockwise to lower the wheel wich comes down on a steel cable.

Bala Mud, best underseal there is, only £30 per application.
no no, i merely filed it away for later investiagion, but negelcted to say "ta very much"
this was due to a temporary interuption of the flow of fingle gass to my fumble valve, resulting in brief loss of textual ability and a concomitant rise in the co effcient of confusion.

thats what me book says ..(chain or cable ) but i cant for the life of me see where the hook "hooks" to. plus im missing the "turny bit" that does up onthe end of the jack handle so i cant turn it.
and lo it was seaid ....."bring forth the mole grips of powa" ....
