The fronts on a 3rd gen are strut assemblies.
Personally, if I was desperate for 3 inches I'd go with standard 2 inch and then add spacers, or 33 inch tyres, which give the same result.

Actually if I wanted 3 inches I'd have to fold it over a few times, badabing
That's not what Vanessa told me.

as much as i like my surf it has to be said that unless you want to spend £££££££s and import stuff from the u.s or oz theres not a lot to be done, if you are serious about off road the best vehicle for availability of parts is a defender ect, a defender out of the box will outperform any surf out of its box apart from the fact that its crap on road, i think a surf with a two inch lift plus tyres is about as good a compramise as you can get--fantastic greenlane ground clearance[ my freinds gen two has consistantly out performed discos ect] with really good on road manners, not knocking what other people do its just really hard work to achieve in both terms of money, time and hastle. I would like to know if landcruiser springs give any lift and if so which ones i need to go for[ie model/year] i will watch this post with interest to find out what you end up doing, regards, kirk.

the landcruiser springs lift the rear by3" and you will need the HD J80 rear springs from milners forget that i just noticed you got a 3rd gen

iv been lookin into it on yotatech an toyota4runner.com already an they all seem to go for toytec or bilstein lifts or spacers

the thought of the 2'' lift an 1'' spacers has crossed my mind but wana try get a full 3'' lift if i can...the 2'' lift an 1'' spacer is on the LONG finger for the moment

its not all bout the ground clearance wit the 3 inch lift i want, its about the articulation too!..wit spacers you only have the standard articulation of the standard shocks an springs so it only gives you lift which is alrite if your playin on flat enough ground or drivin in deep rutts, but wen you wana drive one side up on somethin high like a rock or small mound or bank you need to get past an puttin one side up on its the only way you can you need articulation from the longer shock an springs as it'll lessin the chance of the surf rollin over onto its side or roof...wit spacers you jus raise the center of gravity and keep the standard articulation which isnt so good

which is why i said that my set up is good for greenlane/ground clearance, all depends on how much cash you want to spend

                              Cool.

Has anyone got any experiance of the daystar type (shim) lifts that sit between the strut tops and wing so give lift without altering the spring rate?

I was thinking rough trax 2" lift kit, + Daystar 1" shims type tings, anda 1" 4 crawler kit with additional B pillar support.
                              More Lift.
                              More Tyres.
                              More Engine.

i was thinkin of goin this way myself wen i couldn find front springs to work.
id say it'd be a pretty decent set up..you'd still have a full 2'' extra articulation
and 3'' ground clearance overall...but you would def need a diff drop an panhard drop bracket!!

you can get them daystar lift kits on summit racing for decent enough money too.
