I thought they all did?! I have H2 H4 on the button and H4L and L4L on the stick. I presume the H4L is high range 4wd with locked diff but I could be totally wrong! I'm sure someone with more of a clue will be along to help!

H4 and L4 are 4x4 with a locked CENTER diff. Don't think Surf's got e-locked rear diffs like the 4Runners.

Nope, never seen a Factory Electric Diff lock on any Surf, definatly not a 2nd Gen option, and not seen a 3rd Gen with it. I think it was just a NAS late 4Runner option, some Jap import pickups have them though.

Does that refer to the rear axle diff?
And that looks nice / maintains the electronic 4WD whilst you are on the go and driving.

You mean centre diff? yes, it allows AWD on the road should you need it.

LOL, I'd have though Tony had seen pics of a Multi-mode 3rd Gen before on herre!!

The OP is talking about Factory fit electric rear diff locks, like in a Colorado/Prado. Am pretty sure the 3rd Gen Surf never had them even as an option.

Vince n Tony I meant the rear axle diff not centre diff but should have known the 4L just meant the centre diff, sorry!

Nah, but its by far and away the most common, seems to be more of the petrol trucks are still part time 4WD, but most of the diesels are Multi-mode.
