An alternator is just a motor, but in reverse. Can't see how it could drain a battery.
Do you know if the batteries are good? Have you tried disconnecting both batteries and seeing if they hold their charge over night on their own?

        Not quite Tony...

I'm getting sick of saying 'get a current clamp and find the culprit in minutes' so I wont bother any more.

I thought as much.. If they don't want to buy tools the only other option is to do basic trouble shooting i.e. the hard way.

Remember chaps, you need to be able to measure DC Current

You'll be mighty p1ssed off with an AC current one...

The one I posted was rated for DC, I checked:

"DC voltage: range: 1000V resolution: 1V"

Mmmmm yes, but what if you want to measure CURRENT?

Read it again, and go and stand in the corner!

My surf loves to play along ..... 2,3,4 times but never starts first time! Wife tells me I'm doing it all wrong (though I just gets in and turns - waits - glows - starts ..... starts) ..... She just gets in, and I guarantee the burger starts first time!
