Paul, there's a photo right there of you driving down the road with them on.....

What I see is a road lit up by headlights and a tree lit up by some completely unfocused domestic light fittings. Very pretty but completely unnnecessary.

If you're planning to point them down at the road, I can't see a problem. Completely pointless of course but so are most of the mods that people make to their trucks so fire away and good luck to you.

In gloucestershire we drive on the left.... you will notice i am parked on the right
in a layby, cus it was the only place i could find with little if any ambient light
        to do my experiment........
Sometimes we find having light out to the sides of our vehicles is a bonus specially when there are no white lines or cats eyes to follow......
Headlights point forward and are great for lighting the way ahead when moving fast, driving lights point out and down lighting the way directly to the front and sides of the vehicle great for getting past that narrow gate or down the track to feed the ponies at 5 in the morning.....
I personally cannot see the reason to fit 4 humungus spot lights to the front of a truck purely to light the road 2000 miles ahead when standard headlight give me ample warning of obstacles in front with plenty of time to take action.
Given that alot of roads i drive are up and down and twist and turn spots that light the way 2000miles ahead would only ever act as airplane search lights or try to melt the tarmac so close up mass light is much better......

This is my opinion and i am sticking to it........

          They even say.......

Bulb and reflector are a single 'sealed' unit. When you change a bulb, you replace the glass lens and reflector at the same time. Yet, you can pick up a replacement bulb from a hardware store for as little as £1.00.

              Exactly.

For what you're going to be using them for I think it's a good idea.

Paul, you picked up all of the points I was rushing to say while eating brekky this morning.

I have a 3m length of 16 gauge ally tube in the shed for this very same project. The idea is it will look like a squat roof bar, but will contain 10 of the £4.99 for 10 lights, two of which will be in the ends of the tube to light what's at the sides of the truck. The design was always going to be for offroad use at night.

Those of you who do actually know what offroading at night is like will fully understand where I'm coming from when I say I want to light what is 20 yards away all around the truck. I dont give a monkeys what is 1000 yards away.

I can see these being very useful off road at night. The standard lights create black spots where you would like to see.
On the usual roads and motorways however these would not be good at all.
                            Oh Nana, what's my name?

I don't go offroading at night (or in the day) so, no, I don't know.

My point was regarding driving on the road and was essentially the same as Paul's in terms of completely needless lights shining in people's faces (mine in particular).

If he has no intention of using them on the road, as I said, fair play and good luck. I still can't see the point as I, personally, can remember what was in front of me two seconds ago so know it's still there but, like I said, I don't offroad at night so don't really have a leg to stand on here.

Incidentally, I drive in Gloucestershire frequently, and they don't drive on the left. Most seem to drive in the tiny space between the stone walls on either side, there being no left or right to choose from.

Exactly why we need more light to see the walls that non locals have ploughed into and left srewn across the road, well track really......

I agree its each to thier own and i want lights, but will not stump up £120 for 4 lights someone else made, i'm eating pilchards and going to do it for about £8.49 the four........

                                Hang on 10 lamps at 12v x 50w thats 4.1amps per lamp = 41amps total
kin eck you gunna need cooker cable....

You mention the ones on the end well if you see a paramedic vehicle around and about the light bars on the roof have spots built into the ends for finding house numbers....
