  • Aux Diesel Cab Heater

    Hi Guys

I'm looking to get a diesel cab heater fitted to my Surf, perhaps like this one: http://www.aes2.co.uk/vanheat.htm

I want it for when I travel and sleep in it over night. The system uses fuel from the Surfs tank and is powered by 12v. I already have a leisure battery and split charger fitted with lighting, fridge and inverter etc.

I looked through the threads but cant see if this has been covered before sorry. Any advice on this would be great especially if someone has already done this on their Surf?

    Cheers

    Bud
I told the butcher I'd give him £25 if he got the meat down off the top shelf. He said he couldn't. The steaks were too high.

Didn't they used to be called Webasto heaters or something similar?

Yes, they are another type seen here: http://www.webasto.co.uk/general/en/...bile_3177.html

Mostly used as pre-heaters in cold climates to pre-heat the engine and the cab area. Work of remote control from inside the house to warm your car and reduce engine wear.

The one I want is similar to what you find in motor-homes that run all night long.

Propex do a gas version rather than using diesel from the tank. Think they run quieter as well.

Hi Bud. Eberspacher heaters have been around for donkeys years. When I used to work on comercials, twenty odd years ago, a lot of the trucks were fitted with them. They even used to do a small one to fit in VW beetles and campers, back in the fifties! Try the various truck accessory specialists. You will probably get good advice on specs and fitting requirements....Cheers....Mick .

I'm sure I read somewhere that Rover 75s have Webasto heaters in them somewhere. But I can't remember where, possibly SMC.

Forward thinking by Rover, they knew you would spend endless hours waiting for the by the side of the road for the AA/RAC ...and they knew you would like to be kept warm

The BMW engined 2.0 diesel 75s and ZTs had a Webasto heater up until "52" plate. Some had a timer and others had a remote for starting the heater from your house. I wouldn't have a petrol one but the diesel Rover 75s and MG ZTs are superb cars. A league ahead of anything in the same class.

Where, physically, is the heater on a 75?

In the engine bay next to the battery and about the same size. It has a copper exhaust pipe that exits through the engine under-tray. Later versions don't have it, Project Drive, MGRs cost cutting exercise saw the end of the fuel burning heater. Later cars just have a loop of coolant hose with a bleed screw where the fuel burning heater was in the earlier cars.

I supply & fit loads of Eberspacher heaters to boats. A D2 Airtronic on low power will give you more than enough heat in the truck. After start-up they consume o.1ltr of diesel an hour + about 10W from your 12V system.

Great, would this be something that could run all night?
Would you be able to PM me some idea of cost and quote to fit please?

Cheers to all the feedback on this by the way..

I take it back ,except ...my neighbour had one which was a hangar queen, it eventually had a minor engine bay fire i had to put out on our shared drive. That when they sold it.

                            Ross, thanks for the info.

Dave, don't keep rough unit prices and details secret, it would make this thread pointless

No problem, glad to be of some use.

I agree, please give a rough "all in" price.
