  • Uprated discs / Drums?

Does anyone produce finned alloy brake drums or cross drilled discs for a gen 3 Surf or are there any from other vehicles that would fit with little messing around? I do a fair bit of driving on small upland roads and over hills, the brakes fade badly when going down long steep hills.

    Many thanks

    Ben

I just put mine in low drive & don't even bother with the brakes.
If its not broke don't fix it.

Buy and fit some genuine toyota pads, my brakes are always good even when towing.

Are these Toyota pads making a big difference? The previous owner of my wagon had just fitted the cheaper Milner pads when he sold it to me and they feel like wood against the discs.

And what is wrong with that? The Lexus is down to pretty much metal on metal. I appreciate that some killjoys would probably point out that this is a somewhat dangerous condition to be driving a car in, but hey, it's almost bonfire night, and pretty soon I'll be getting some funky sparks out of the back...

Damned if I'm going to sort it out when that hooligan Bushwhacker is going to take an angle grinder to it shortly...

Genuine pads are worth a look if you have issues, there is a big difference sometimes. They are only £30 plus the usual from Roughtrax.

Make sure the backs are clean and adjusted properly, they often arn't.

Colorados have rear discs, in theroy shouldn't be much of a big deal to swap as axle is the same, but not looked into it.

I've found genuine pads last longer and give better results so worth the extra cost.

Tony, tell him it's beyond economical repair but you've found a buyer for some of the parts ...

You can have the Surf an extra day next week to fit the discs !

There is a company in the states who sell uprated discs for a 2nd gen. Would have thought they would do the same for a third gen. I cannot find the website now though. Tony knows about them as I mentioned them on here. They are expensive though, probably not worth the money to ship them over to England, pay duties on top of the costs. Depends on what you are using the Surf for may be.
                            Oh Nana, what's my name?

Yep Summitracing do EBC drilled and grooved discs for the 2nd gen. Probably do them for the 3rd too. Just the cost of shipping that's a problem.
