Wouldn't it have been easier to winch them out of a helicopter?

I used to do a lot of height work till I hit my forties, including masts when rigging but my worst moment was on a jury rigged stage on a ships bridge, I'd used an upturned trestle as a normal stage wouldn't work on the bit I was working on. The job was to get a rusted bit freed up and I was chipping away with a chipping hammer holding on with one hand (early seventies no harness on ship) when a rope slid a bit, I let go the hammer mid swing and grabbed the other rope as my feet slipped off the trestle, the hammer clattered off the bridge front, bounced and hit me straight in the gob, knocking out my bottom front tooth.
What a ####in nightmare, leave go and grab injured mouth then fall 80ft or scramble about with feet till safe again, I get the shakes even now thinking about it. H
