Since I am resurrecting the dead 2.4, I figured in for a penny, in for a pound (well many many hundreds of pounds actually... D'oh!).
I'd love to say money is no object, but unless a very particular series of brightly coloured balls falls out of a big plastic can this weekend, sadly that ain't the case!
But since it is going to have a reborn engine, I figure a) I would like to extend the life of the result as much as possible, and b) get all the work that I possibly can done whilst it is in surgery.
I realise that the ideal rather depends on what the truck is to be used for. This is not going to be a hard core mudplugger. I want to do some off roading, but it also needs to be a practical day to day vehicle as well - and my wife won't stand for having to use a ladder to climb in (even though she'll have her Surf to use most of the time!!!). So 6" lifts are out. It has to be something I can climb into in suited and booted in the mornings, take for longish motorway trips, get filled up with hay and crap in the back and generally be useful around the farm, and then sometimes go playing and get muddy. Oh and obviously it has to look like a beast, just for the hell of it .
Tall order?
Here are my thoughts so far of things that would be options. Obviously then need to weigh up costs and prioritise. Would love to hear all ideas/suggestions though.
Engine - Bushwhacker Lexurf - no question.
Brakes/suspension - Will be 2" body lift. As I said don't want more than that, this isn't going to be a monster truck (actually, might consider 2" suspension lift too if someone can persuade me there is a point in it). Not sure what other brake or suspension upgrade options are realistic/possible/beneficial, but would love to improve braking, and perhaps reduce roll a touch.
Other mechanical - what would people swap out/replace/upgrade to extend life and improve reliability given the option?
Boots - 31" and alloys - will refurb existing alloys off my Burgundy 3.
Body - all black spray job (hopefully just needs bottom/arches doing - at the moment is black over silver but with awful stickers on)
Bull bar - will use wrap-around off Burgundy 3L with spots.
Light bar - 4 rectangular spots under roof bar.
Lights generally - bulb upgrades (would be great to actually be able to see at night on the road), clear light fittings all round (is this legal btw?)
Interior Preferably recaro interior in front, though poss some other bucket seats (preferably reclining). Or maybe "just" full interior retrim?!
Carbon dash kit - white light up dials - sports wheel (I like the roughtrax one that a few people seem to have).
ICE - Alpine b/t headset with iPod dock in centre console. Upgraded front speakers (door speakers?). Don't need an untza-untza boom box or blue neons underneath though!
Would love to hear all suggestions. Especially serious ones, though appreciate they may be in the minority on here .
