This might help a 1" increase in diameter will increase the height by 0.5" although the actual height will be determined by the profile of the tyre.

        15" wheel is 29.6" high.

        16" wheel is 30.6" high.

You got some nice 16's in ?

        Cheers,
        Rob.

Those two tyre sizes are the same, their size will match but the centre hole the rim slots into is different between them, thats all.

i.e. the 265x70x15 will have more rubber between the outer edge and the beginning of the rim, by about half inch.

Wishbone is correct , overall diameter in mm is 777mm for the 16" rim and 752mm for the 15" rim .

                Fraid not fella.

265 is the width of tyre in mm. 70 means the profile is 70% of 265mm. 15 means on a 15" wheel.

Do the math. 265 x 70% x 2 (top and bottom of wheel) divide by 25.4 to convert to inches and add to the 15" for total height.

I stand corrected! Makes sense but I'm knackered so will look back tomorrow!
In American sizes would I have been correct or still completely wrong?
                  Cheers!

Here's an example using imperial sizing. 33" used because both are available in 15 and 16s. I thought both would have same diameter when I first read the post as well.

                        I don't understand it either.

                        Here's the calculator -

Okay so this must sort of explain why some 33" tyres fall short of 33".

                          I have just compared USA sized tyres - 33 x 12.5 x 15 and 33 x 12.5 x 16 and the 16" rim makes the tyre 34" and the 15" rim seems correct with a tyre of 32.5"

Strange. May be the USA sizes are just a rough guide to match to the imperial sizes? e.g. to try and make it easier
