There's still the cable tie option. Mine was like that for 6 years - but then, I guess I was carrying all that extra weight around...

the egr is on the fuel filter side of the engine, the pipe is not near the turbo?

I removed the entire EGR system (as per the link I posted). One end of it comes out of the exhaust system by the turbo. I also removed the EGR valve and the pipe that goes from the EGR valve to the air intake. (At least, I think that's how it works).

It's all explained far better in the write up I linked to.

Or you could just cable tie it!

        following bushwackers link...

if i just remove the metal pipe (egr pipe) from next to the fuel filter, put a blanking a plate at either on the bolts, then put the pipe back on and nut it back up, that is everything?

So basically you're leaving everything there but blocking it off?

          Cable tie?

how do you cable tie a metal pipe?

or are you talking about the vacuum pipe?

im just blanking it off not junking it.

This is what I did - removed the whole shebang. Seemed the best idea to me and it isn't that difficult.

This is what some other folks have done. I considered doing this but it didn't seem much different to what I actually did from a practical point of view.

Just using cable ties on the rubber vacuum pipes should work fine assuming your EGR valve is working or stuck shut. If it's stuck open it doesn't help anything (at least not as I understand it from what I've read). Sounds like the easiest quick fix but after searching the forum there doesn't seem to be a good clear set of illustrated instructions (certainly not as good as the top two links anyway) so I can't help with this option I'm afraid.

Good luck with whatever you decide to do! If you need any direct help drop me a PM and I'll give you my phone number.

                  im doing the second link..

as it seems the quickest and easiest for the time being.

at the same time ill be changing the fuel filter with a new one full of redex.

this should help me in time for my trip to london on friday.
