Bit of a long tale, but about insurance
Firstly I would like to say thankyou to Vince for fitting a Lexus engine in my Surf, he does a great job.Top man.
Here is a little story about insuring my Surf.
Back in the early 2009 I had a bash after skidding on snow that had fallen on a frozen srteam that ran accross the road, at the same time a Scooby Imp was coming the other way and the Surf just demolished it(no one was hurt, thank god). insurance company's were exchanged and I had to hold up my hands and say I was at fault. At the time I was insured with Groupama, fully comp as surf was import ? so what. This was the first ever claim against me in 30 years of driving, I had opted for the NCD protection extra when I had insured the surf so I thought that in no way would my NCD be affected.Wrong..
Groupama first told me to bring the surf in for a repair quote as it was fully comp, great I thought, they then told me that the cost of the repair to the surf was more than what the vehicle was worth and they were writing the vehicle off. I went balistic, they said the surf was worth 900 quid and the repairs were going to cost 1300 quid and they would give me 600 quid to repair it or it would be classed as scrapped. To rub salt into the wound they then quoted me over 700quid to renew the insurance with them as I had lost all my NCD. Woh a min, I have paid for NCD protection, yes sir but we retain the right to cancel the NCD protection at any time in the first 4 years of insuring with us, and sure enough it was there in tiny letters in one of the paragraphs of the policy.
So long and short of it, if your vehicle's worth is less than say £3000 avoid fully comp and make sure to read the whole policy, I got complacent over the years having had no claims against me,now I'm in the same price bracket as the 17 year old chavs in their loud hatches.
Was with Adrian Flux last year (they were the cheapest tpft) and informed them of poss engine change to LS400, they said no increase in price?
I fixed the surf for under 100 quid,£32 for front drivers wing, some grey primer,a front indicator/side light assembly and I chained the bumper up to my MK2 transit and yanked it straight. And it's was MOT'd after,
Can't wait to hear the LS engine through 2 spintech mufflers.
