Thanks for the offer, really appreciate the help. I will try to find the berrel as I agree that it is the likely cause of the problem. Do you have an idea how much your breaker would charge for the switch? To be honest the whole thing looks so dodgy I would not be surprised if the switch needed replacing too.

The price varies dependent on how nice you are to me...

I'm not sure, but it won't be too expensive, will depend on postage.

The part of the switch with the electrical contacts in is a seperate item attached to the base of the barrel housing. It's held on by a screw at the housing end and can be disconnected from the wiring loom via a black multiplug under the steering column .

              It's this wiring/contacts part you'll need. It's a plug 'n' play part.

What? He installs it and then crashes every 5 minutes?

No worries, just switch it off then switch it back on again.

                    May need a de-frag though.

Bags I get to frag it before the de-frag.

Andy (Albannach) take the cowl off and then put the key in the ignition. If you look under the barrel you will see a small pin to press in with a nail or the like.I think you may have to turn the key and the barrel will just come out.Once the cowl is off it is litterally a 30 second job

Thanks for all the advice, got the barrel sorted, I think. I have an other problem now.

I have changed the starter contacts and put the starter back on. Now when I turn the key (er... screwdriver) in the ignition I get a sharp click, but nothing else. It seems the starter dosnt engage, it only clicks but there is no turning.

I am pretty sure I did a good job putting everything back as it was before.

Any ideas what this oculd be???

Battery is fine, contacts are not great but it should be fine. It was trying to turn over before I changed contacts but now nothing... I also tried banging the starter with a hammer to no effect this time...
