  • New to the Surf

    Hi all.

Just thought I'd stop by and say hello.
Not long had my surf, and I'm loving it...
I have a few questions to ask, but will search FAQ's first...
    Nice to meet you all.

Thanks for the warm welcome guys...
I'm slowly learning bit by bit about my trusty stead.
Just had the brake pads done, so, not only do I stop now, but in a straight line too!!! the inside pistons had siezed..

Two things, firstly, glow plug light used to stay on once you turn the ignition 1 click and not go out until I fired it up, now, it goes out almost immediately??? Is this just 1 of those wierd little things that happens? Or should I be worried?
Also, the timing belt, that light comes on every time I switch the ignition on, but goes out once started, I'm thinking of having the timing belt changed fairly soon anyway, as I've got no history with the Surf, I did read somewhere about re-setting the... erm... what-ya-ma-call it?
Is there anything else I should know about? Because I really do love this car, and want to keep it in tip top condition for as long as possible.

                  Many thanks...

Timing belt light comming on is normal, but if you don't know the history get it changed out as well as all filters and fluids, worth it and you've then got a starting point for all other servicing needed.

Every 100km is recommended for your timing belt, if you don't know it's been done in less than that, get it done.

The timing belt and various other lights will come on with the ignition and then go off on start up. If it stays on after start up then its telling you something.
In your case however, with no history, I would change the timing belt ASAP, previous owner could have had it come on and then simply pressed the reset. Timing belt on a 3.0l is easy and quick to do. I personally think it makes sense to do the timing belt immediately on any 2nd hand car you buy. Gives a bit of peace of mind. Oh and welcome
