When driving on the roads and highways the 4wd stick should be in nuetral correct?

is a vented bonnet worth the spend?

no it should be in H2
H4 is when the lever is still in the back position but you press the button on the lever.
If you push the lever forward then you will be in L4

I know about the usage of it but was a little unsure of the road driving norm as we have a landy which stays in H ratio but its in permanent 4wd. so im getting used to having a seperate stick.

H2, button on small lever out, no 4WD light on dash, normal road use.

Press button on small lever while on move (up to about 45mph-ish) green 4WD lights up on dash = 4WDH slippy surfaces only.

Move small lever forward WHILE STATIONARY. = 4WDL

Unless you have a proper hilux, the 3rd gen!
                  Nissan Patrol for on-road, and a Land-Rover 110 shed for off-road :-)
